FabFitFun Annual Membership: Is the Sign-Up Gift Worth It?

Have you been seeing ads on social media for FabFitFun’s annual membership? The ads usually feature an array of products and sign-up gifts worth either $200 or $250. Some of the products in the ads piqued my interest, so I decided to sign-up. And no, you can’t cancel after signing up. You’re committed to paying for and receiving boxes for the next year.

The Gift

I used the code GIFT200 when signing up. Now, the code didn’t actually go through upon purchase, apparently, which is weird, because I definitely entered it. But, I reached out to customer service and they graciously were able to get me the gift box, regardless. You weren’t able to choose what you wanted for the gift like you can choose items in the actual boxes.

So, here’s what I received:

Amber Sceats Stella Crystal Bag

BaubleBar Build Your Own Bracelet Kit

IGK Legendary Dream Hair Shampoo & Conditioner (two separate items)

SusieCakes Cake Stand & Plate (two separate items)

My Thoughts on the Items

Now, I don’t know about you, but these items are extremely underwhelming to me, especially if you’re familiar with what some of the items from the seasonal boxes have been. As far as I can tell, these are items from previous seasonal boxes that were left over (probably because no one wanted them). Also, I don’t think the gift box takes into account your preference quiz (I don’t know for sure but it’s just a guess). These items also were not pictured in the multiple advertisements I received.

Of all the items, the only one I am keeping is the hair conditioner. Right as the box shipped to me, I ran out of conditioner, so it was perfect timing. I’m very picky about shampoo and already have plenty, so I won’t be keeping that.

The cake plate and stand aren’t terrible, but I just don’t need it. I don’t really see myself having a use for it. It’s not a terrible item, but I just don’t think I’d use it very often, if ever, and I’m big on not having any clutter or useless items around.

The bag is another item that’s okay. It’s a small little clutch-type bag with a strap that you’d probably wear going out or on some sort of special occasion. Again, I just don’t think I’d use this. I’m not really into the clothing-type items from FabFitFun as I prefer a little bit nicer of brands.

Now for the bracelet kit. This one, in my opinion, is the worst of all of them. FabFitFun is marketed toward grown women. What grown woman is sitting around making their own bracelet, especially one  with cheap beads? This seems like a good gift for a child, which is probably how old I was when I last made my own bracelet. I’m not sure why FabFitFun would include an item like this for its clientele.

The Ads

I want to take a minute to include some of the ads I received which influenced my decision to purchase the annual membership.

Example #1

Example #2

Example #3

The ads don’t clearly indicate whether the items are for the seasonal boxes or for the free gifts. I think example one is a little unclear, but example #2 does seem more oriented toward the actual boxes. Example #3, however, definitely seems to me like it’s advertising the free gift. At the very end it talks about the gift, with the picture right below. It even has the code for the free gift on the picture. It is for the GIFT250, though, which is not the one I used. I do not know if the products in that box are any different than the ones I received.

Final Thoughts

In the end, my advice is to not let the free gift be the determining factor of whether or not you purchase the annual membership. I don’t think the free gifts are worth it if you’re not already planning on getting the membership, and you may just end up with more junk and clutter. On the other hand, it looks like I have some extra gifts on hand now for my friends and family.
