Is the Dior Lip Oil Really “All That?”

The Hype

Dior’s Addict Lip Glow Oil has been making its rounds on social media. The product claims to revitalize and nourish lips while giving a slight tint and leaving a shiny finish. So, is it all it’s cracked up to be?

The Product

The Addict Lip Glow Oil comes in 11 shades, with one of them being clear. The product comes in a 0.20 oz bottle and retails for US$40. Dior’s website describes the oil as being a non-sticky oil that brings out the color of the natural lips. The key ingredient is cherry oil, which is what helps to “instantly revitalize” the lips.

My Thoughts

I bought the oil during a sale at Sephora, totaling $36 before any taxes. I purchased the color Rosewood - a light reddish color, close to the natural color of my lips.

Before I go any further, let me give a quick little disclaimer/background information about myself: I’m not a huge makeup wearer. I wear very simple products, like mascara, the occasional concealer, tinted moisturizer, and blush, etc. So my thoughts are coming from someone who doesn’t wear a ton of makeup but was intrigued by the hype around the product. I also have super dry lips and am constantly applying chapstick.

This product wasn’t worth it to me. Upon applying, I hardly noticed a color, if at all. Now, that could be on me for choosing something close to a natural color. But I was expecting at least something to show up. Looks wise, it looked no different than when I apply my holy grail cherry Carmex. Same shine factor and everything. In terms of feeling, I didn’t feel instantly moisturized. In fact, it felt like a regular lipgloss to me. Stickiness and all. The product didn’t last long on my lips either - after the application, I hardly noticed it was even there. And for the price tag, what’s the point?

Would I Recommend It?

If you consider yourself to be a beauty guru of sorts, I would recommend you try the product for yourself. Or, if you don’t consider spending $40 on a makeup product a splurge, then hey, why not try it. But if you’re someone like me, who really doesn’t wear much makeup but got caught up in the hype enough to think this product is going to do something special for you, I’d recommend you skip out on this one. Also, if you’re someone with particularly dry lips, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.
